Superb location with outstanding sea views
Within a few minutes' walk of Hugh Town
Seaview terrace

Overlooking the clear waters of the harbour, and enjoying stunning panoramic vistas of the islands of Tresco, Bryher, Samson and St Martin’s, Tregarthen’s boasts the best views of any hotel on St Mary’s. A couple of minutes’ walk will take you into Hugh Town, where you’ll find shops, galleries, artists’ studios and all the facilities you need. So whether you wish to explore the Isles of Scilly, the island of St Mary's, or just relax and enjoy the views, Tregarthen’s is the perfect place. It was founded in 1848 by Captain Frank Tregarthen, who ran the steam packet ‘Little Western’ which delivered mail, provisions and visitors between Penzance and Scilly.

The 33 bedrooms are light, airy and peaceful, with en-suite facilities, together with all the comforts you’d expect during your stay. Many bedrooms offer magnificent views of the ocean and the off-islands or views across the charming streets of Hugh Town. For extra seclusion in leafy surroundings, opt for a stay in the Port Light Garden Suite, a bedroom with its own private lounge situated in the tranquil gardens.

Public rooms include a lounge, restaurant and elegant garden terrace overlooking the bay. The menu at Tregarthen’s features a mouth-watering array of fresh, locally caught seafood and specialises in seasonal, local produce wherever possible. On Sundays, the restaurant serves a magnificent gala buffet of fresh local meats, fish, shellfish and seasonal salads, so you can sample a range of the region’s finest delicacies.

The charming Garden Terrace is perfect for enjoying a leisurely alfresco lunch, a proper Cornish cream tea or an evening drink, whilst taking in unparalleled views of Tresco and Bryher. Here, you’ll find it’s all too easy to lose an afternoon watching the boats come and go across the harbour. However, for the more active, the clear, unpolluted island waters are perfect for snorkelling, scuba-diving, windsurfing, fishing, sailing and kayaking, or take an island tour by boat to view the stunning coastline, boasting white-sand beaches, sheltered inlets of turquoise waters and solitary rocky outcrops populated by seals, puffins and other migrating birds.
