The
diverse and beautiful county of Sussex has much to offer the visitor.
Wonderful walks and views can be enjoyed on the South Downs and
along the coast, and through Ashdown Forest (where Winnie the Pooh
used to play!), while the Weald offers a landscape of gentle countryside
dotted with villages and traditional inns. A free brochure 'Walk
South East England', detailing a variety of countryside and coastal
walks, is available from local Tourist Information Centres.
Aside
from walking, this fascinating region offers a host of castles,
gardens, historic towns and stately homes. Highlights include Bodiam
Castle, a classic picture-book castle, the bustling seaside city
of Brighton, glorious gardens at Sheffield Park renowned for its
autumn colours and the Bluebell Railway, one of the best steam railways
in Britain.
Other
interesting places to visit include the charming town of Rye, Petworth
House filled with impressive paintings, Chichester Harbour and the
traditional seaside resort of Eastbourne. Children will particularly
enjoy a visit to Drusillas Park in Alfriston, a small zoo with lots
of animals ranging from meercats to monkeys and a variety of excellent
play areas catering for children of all ages.
